Höllentalanger Hut, Alpine club hut in Wetterstein Mountains, Germany.
The Höllentalanger Hut is a mountain lodge in the Wetterstein range, set at 1387 meters (4550 ft) between two steep ridges in the Bavarian Alps. The building provides shelter and supplies for hikers and climbers who are exploring the surrounding peaks and valleys.
The hut was built in 1894 as a simple shelter for mountaineers and enlarged in 1925 to accommodate more climbers. A complete renovation in 2015 updated the building while preserving the original log structure, which now stands in an Alpine museum in Munich.
The hut maintains traditional Alpine hospitality while serving as a meeting point for mountaineers and outdoor enthusiasts from numerous countries exploring the Bavarian peaks.
The lodge is reached by well-marked trails from Hammersbach and Obergrainau through the Höllental gorge, each path taking around two and a half hours on foot. Both approaches are steep and require sturdy hiking boots and a steady footing on mountain terrain.
The lodge operates small-scale hydroelectric power and uses advanced water treatment systems, earning environmental recognition in 2017 for its sustainable approach. This blend of eco-friendly practices and mountain hospitality sets it apart from other alpine shelters.
