Höllentalspitzen, Mountain peak in Wetterstein range, Bavaria, Germany
Höllentalspitzen comprises three distinct peaks in the Wetterstein Mountains, with the middle summit reaching about 2,743 meters (9,000 ft). These peaks sit between different valleys and form a prominent part of this mountain range.
The peaks became known among climbers after the Jubiläumsgrat route was established, connecting them to Germany's highest mountain, the Zugspitze. This link made them an important part of climbing routes in the region.
The name comes from the Hell Valley to the north, which separates these peaks from the terrain further south. This connection to the local geography becomes clear when you explore the surrounding landscape.
These peaks require advanced mountaineering experience and strong rope and climbing skills. Good weather and daylight hours are essential for safely navigating the technical sections.
Between the middle and outer peaks stands the Höllentalgrat Hut, an unmanned emergency shelter positioned at high altitude for climbers. This basic refuge has assisted many people in difficult situations.
