AlpspiX, Steel observation deck at Osterfelderkopf mountain, Germany
AlpspiX is a steel structure on the Osterfelderkopf mountain in the Wetterstein range at an elevation of 2050 meters. The platform consists of two intersecting walkways that extend far out from the mountainside.
The platform opened in 2010 and required multiple helicopter flights to transport the components to the remote mountain site. This construction method was necessary because of the altitude and difficult terrain.
The platform has become a landmark where visitors pause to take in the surrounding landscape. People use it as a viewpoint to experience the mountain from a different perspective.
The easiest way to reach the site is by riding the Alpspitzbahn cable car from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to the summit station. Weather-resistant clothing and sturdy shoes are recommended since it is windy and cool at the summit.
The platform floor is made of metal grating that allows visitors to look straight down through the structure. This design creates an intense sensation of standing between earth and sky.
