AlpspiX

The AlpspiX consists of two intersecting steel walkways extending 24 meters from the mountainside, situated at an elevation of 2050 meters.

The observation platform opened in 2010 after sixty helicopter flights transported individual components weighing up to 1.4 tons to construct the 30-ton structure.

German mountaineers and nature conservation groups opposed the construction, believing the steel platform diminished the natural character of the Wetterstein Mountains.

Visitors reach the observation deck by taking the Alpspitzbahn cable car to the mountain station, where the platform extends above the Höllental valley.

The metal gratings on the viewing platforms floor allow visitors to look directly through the structure to the valley floor 1000 meters below.
