Höllentalklamm S von Grainau

The Höllentalklamm is a gorge in Grainau with limestone walls and several waterfalls, extending about 2 kilometers. The path runs through tunnels and across bridges that have been carved into the rock.

Access to the gorge was improved in the early 1900s through the construction of pathways and structures. These developments allowed people to safely walk through the area.

The name refers to the dramatic gorge that people navigate today on foot, crossing bridges and passing through carved tunnels. The steep walls and rushing water create the defining impression for all visitors.

A visit is seasonal and runs mainly during warmer months. It is wise to wear sturdy shoes and prepare for slippery surfaces and wet conditions.

A mountain stream flows through the entire gorge and creates powerful water effects throughout. Artificial lighting in the tunnels helps visitors explore the darkest sections of the site.
