Höllentalklamm S von Grainau

The Höllentalklamm canyon extends for two kilometers through limestone walls, reaching depths of 150 meters with numerous waterfalls cascading down rock formations.

Mining operations in the Höllental valley during the 19th century extracted lead ore, later shifting to molybdenum extraction during World War I.

Engineer Adolf Zoepritz developed the canyon's path system in 1902, installing bridges, tunnels, and walkways to make this natural formation accessible.

The canyon path operates from June until mid-October, requiring sturdy hiking boots and warm clothing as temperatures remain cool even during summer months.

Electric lighting illuminates the network of tunnels carved through rock formations, while the Hammersbach stream creates powerful water features throughout the gorge.
