Kastenkopf

Kastenkopf is a summit in the Allgäu Alps that rises to 2,129 meters and features steep slopes made of limestone throughout. The mountain displays rocky surfaces across its faces and forms a distinctive part of the alpine landscape.

Local mountaineering groups established multiple climbing routes to the summit during the 19th century as Alpine exploration began in earnest. These early paths formed the foundation for the hiking network that exists in this region today.

Hikers reach the summit via clearly marked trails that start from nearby parking areas throughout the region. The best season for climbing is from June through September when weather conditions are most stable and snow coverage is minimal.

The summit offers direct views of Schrecksee, Germany's highest Alpine lake, whose waters mirror the surrounding peaks. This glacier-fed lake sits at a remarkable elevation and becomes a focal point for many who reach the top.
