Roßkopf

Roßkopf is a 737 meter (2,418 ft) summit in the Black Forest situated at the border of Freiburg, Gundelfingen, and former Ebnet. The Kandel trail passes over the peak and connects hiking and cycling routes across the region.

An observation tower built in 1889 crowns the summit, offering views across Freiburg and toward the Kaiserstuhl range. This structure marks the peak's role as a recognizable landmark in the region since the late 1800s.

Boundary markers scattered across the summit document how municipal borders between Freiburg, Gundelfingen, and former Ebnet evolved over time. These stones reflect the administrative changes that shaped the communities below.

The summit is accessible via the Kandel trail, which welcomes both hikers and cyclists with varying difficulty options. Bring weather-appropriate clothing as the paths can be slippery after rain.

Four wind turbines installed on the summit since 2003 stand as prominent features of this mountain landscape. These installations generate renewable energy for thousands of households across the region.
