Ebnet Castle, Baroque château in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany.
Ebnet Castle is a Baroque structure in Freiburg im Breisgau featuring a symmetrical layout with outbuildings arranged around a central courtyard. The main facade displays a family coat of arms that marks the entrance to the grounds.
The property was originally held by the Abbey of Saint Peter in the Black Forest until 1113, then came under the ownership of knight Schnewlin von Landeck around 1348. During World War II, the castle suffered significant damage in 1944 from an explosion caused by the Volkssturm militia.
The castle houses the Theodor Egel Hall, which serves as a performance venue for the Freiburg Bach Choir and hosts seasonal cultural events.
The castle is located at Schwarzwaldstraße 278 in Freiburg im Breisgau and opens its grounds during specific cultural events and Open Monument Day. Check ahead for scheduled events since access is not available at all times.
Following its destruction in 1944, the castle sheltered around 100 displaced persons until 1950 and became important for community recovery. This lesser-known chapter shows how the building served the local population during difficult times.
