Bodenmais

Bodenmais is a market municipality and health resort in Regen district, Bavaria, located at roughly 690 meters elevation within the Bavarian Forest. The settlement follows valley lines and slopes, with access to forest trails and upland paths nearby.

Mining operations shaped the development of Bodenmais for centuries, turning the municipality into a center for mineral extraction in the Bavarian Forest. The mines closed during the 20th century and some former sites now welcome visitors.

Local establishments maintain traditional Bavarian hospitality through family-operated hotels that pass management from one generation to the next.

A local wellness center offers more than twenty fitness and relaxation programs, including water-based exercise, without extra charges for visitors. Trails of varying difficulty lead from the village center into wooded hills and require weather-appropriate clothing during changing mountain conditions.

Several hotels run their own distilleries, producing spirits through handed-down recipes using regional ingredients. Visitors can observe the distilling process during tours and sample different types of brandy.
