Pattensen

Pattensen is an urban municipality in the Hannover region comprising eight boroughs: Hüpede, Jeinsen, Koldingen, Oerie, Pattensen-Mitte, Reden, Schulenburg, and Vardegötzen, plus two additional hamlets. These settlements sit between the Leine River and the Deister hills in a mix of farmland and suburban neighborhoods.

The area was first documented in 986, and in the 13th century Count Ludolf II von Hallermund built a castle to control trade routes passing through the region. This strategic position shaped the territory's development for centuries afterward.

Municipal events throughout the year bring together residents from all eight boroughs, maintaining strong connections between local communities and traditions.

The municipality sits about 12 kilometers (7 miles) north of Hannover with direct road links to the regional capital, making it convenient for those commuting or exploring the area. The eight boroughs are well connected by local roads, so driving allows you to move between neighborhoods easily.

The area sits within the historic Calenberg Land, a region shaped by its position between river valleys and hill ranges that influenced how the municipality developed over time. This geography created a distinctive blend of water courses and elevated terrain that visitors can still observe today.
