Werder

The oldest quarter of Werder occupies an island in the Havel River, connected to the mainland by a single bridge and surrounded by five lakes.

Established in 1317 as Werdere, the town endured devastation during the Thirty Years War and later served as a military base through World War II.

The Baumblütenfest celebrates spring with the region's fruit tree blossoms, making it Germany's third-largest fair with concerts and traditional fruit wines.

The town maintains extensive maritime facilities for water activities, with numerous boat rental services and developed waterways across the surrounding lakes.

Local monks of the Cistercian Order introduced viticulture before 1300, establishing wine production as the second-oldest trade in Werder.
