Antoniuskirche, Catholic church in Rödelheim, Germany
The Antoniuskirche is a neo-Gothic church in Frankfurt's Rödelheim district featuring tall spires, intricate stonework, and large windows that flood the interior with natural light. It houses a Hugo Mayer organ from 1985 with 28 registers across two manuals and pedals.
The building was constructed between 1892 and 1894 and sustained severe damage during Frankfurt's air raids in 1944. It was reconstructed and restored to use after World War II ended.
The interior displays religious paintings in the Nazarene style mounted on iron panels, which shaped how German Catholics decorated their churches during the 1800s. These artworks remain a key visual element of the space today.
The church is easily accessible with good interior circulation and comfortable seating throughout the space. Check ahead for service times or organ concerts to plan your visit during an event you might enjoy.
Before the current building opened, the Catholic congregation worshipped in a converted tannery that was purchased in 1819, marking the return of Catholic services to the neighborhood. This earlier space was an important step in establishing the community's presence.
