Frankfurter Feldbahnmuseum

The Frankfurter Feldbahnmuseum is a railway museum in Frankfurt housing more than 50 locomotives and around 150 wagons in steam, diesel, and electric forms available for viewing. The vehicles are arranged on tracks and display the different stages of development in rail transport.

The museum was established in 1976 in response to growing interest in Frankfurt's local transport heritage. Its formation marked the beginning of efforts to document how rail systems evolved across the region over many decades.

The collection reflects the significance of narrow-gauge railways in Frankfurt's industrial and agricultural past, with vehicles showing how these trains moved goods and people through the region. This heritage remains visible in the preserved equipment and layout throughout the site.

The museum operates functional vintage locomotives and wagons on demonstration tracks, allowing visitors to experience historical rail transport systems directly. Regular guided tours are available, and combination tickets with other Frankfurt transport museums can be purchased for broader access.

Many visitors do not realize the museum still owns functioning steam locomotives from different eras and operates them regularly for demonstrations. These rare operating sessions show how loud and vivid these machines actually were.
