Technische Sammlung Hochhut, Technology and automobile museum in Gallus district, Frankfurt, Germany
The Technische Sammlung Hochhut is a technology and automobile museum in the Gallus district of Frankfurt featuring historic vehicles, motorcycles, steam engines, and Stirling motors displayed across multiple exhibition halls. The collection presents examples from different periods of motorization and engine technology.
The museum was founded in 1999 and grew from Fritz Hochhut's passion for collecting technical artifacts over many decades. The collection includes Germany's second-oldest registered automobile, dating back to 1898.
The museum displays replicas of the first Daimler motorcycle from 1885 and the Benz automobile from 1886, showcasing early German engineering innovations. These recreations tell the story of inventions that transformed how people moved.
Visits require advance booking, and guided group tours are available on Fridays for eight or more people. Individual appointments can be arranged by contacting the museum directly.
More than ninety percent of the displayed engines remain in working condition and are maintained and restored in the museum's own workshops. This upkeep means the historical examples can be understood rather than simply observed as static objects.
