Arado Flugzeugwerke, Aircraft manufacturer in Warnemünde, Germany
Arado Flugzeugwerke was an aerospace factory in Warnemünde that produced military aircraft, seaplanes, and training planes. The facility manufactured different models such as the Ar 96 trainer and the Ar 196 reconnaissance seaplane, which served on German naval vessels.
The company was established in 1925 and began under the name Arado Handelsgesellschaft to continue aircraft production during post-WWI restrictions. The facility expanded over the following decades into a major producer of various aircraft types.
The manufacturing complex employed over 1000 workers from various regions, contributing to the technological advancement of German aviation engineering between the wars.
Visitors can learn about this factory mainly through collections and archives today, as some of the original buildings no longer stand. Information about access should be checked in advance, as the site is not organized as a traditional museum.
The company developed the Ar 234 Blitz, the first operational jet-powered bomber in the world, which entered service in 1943. This aircraft was technologically far ahead of its time and represented a turning point in aviation development.
