Hohenstaufen Castle, Medieval castle ruins in Göppingen, Germany
The stone remnants of Hohenstaufen Castle stand on a 684-meter hill between the Rems and Fils rivers in Baden-Württemberg.
Frederick I of Hohenstaufen initiated the construction of this fortress around 1070, establishing it as the primary seat of the Staufer dynasty.
The castle site contains a memorial stele and museum presenting artifacts that document the evolution of medieval German architecture and nobility.
Visitors can reach the castle ruins through a marked trail starting at the Staufer Museum, which provides detailed historical information about the site.
The stones from this castle were repurposed for building the Renaissance Göppingen Castle after its destruction during the German Peasants' War in 1525.
