Lübeck-Blankensee Airport, Commercial airport in Lübeck, Germany.
Lübeck-Blankensee Airport is a commercial aviation facility located southwest of the city of Lübeck serving both domestic and international routes. The airport operates with a single terminal building and a runway approximately 2 kilometers long to accommodate scheduled passenger flights.
The facility was established in 1917 as a military airfield and later played a role during the Berlin Blockade with involvement from the Royal Air Force. Following the war, the site was gradually converted into a civilian airport to serve the region.
The airport represents a gateway to the medieval architecture of Lübeck, connecting travelers to the UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring the Holstentor Gate.
The airport can be reached via the A1 motorway and has bus connections to central Lübeck as well as direct train service at Lübeck-Flughafen station. Travelers should check current traffic conditions and schedules beforehand to arrive at the terminal with adequate time before departure.
The airport management launched a venture called Lübeck Air in 2020, a virtual airline that operated until 2023. This project was an experimental effort to expand flight offerings and attract new passengers to the airport.
