Berlin Sportpalast, Multi-purpose arena in Schöneberg, Germany.
The Berlin Sportpalast was a large multi-purpose hall in the Schöneberg district with a capacity of around 14,000 people. The facility contained multiple spaces designed to accommodate different types of events and performances.
Architect Hermann Dernburg designed the building, which opened in 1910 as the world's largest indoor ice rink at the time. It was demolished in 1973 after financial difficulties made continued operation unfeasible.
The venue served as Berlin's main gathering place for entertainment and drew performers from across the world. Audiences came to see international stars perform on its stage throughout the mid-twentieth century.
The site was located in the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district, but the building no longer stands. Today, only historical photographs and records remain as reminders of this former venue.
During the 1920s and 1930s, the venue gained fame for hosting six-day bicycle races and professional boxing matches. German champion Max Schmeling performed here, making it a center for German boxing culture.
