Aufbereitungs- und Verwertungsanlage für Trümmerschutt, Industrial recycling facility in Bornheim, Germany
The Trümmerschutt Processing Plant was a large-scale facility in Frankfurt-Bornheim that crushed, sorted, and processed rubble into new construction materials. The factory contained various machines for processing and could convert large daily quantities of debris into usable materials.
The facility was established in 1949 after the war to process the massive rubble from the destroyed city. It remained in operation until 1964 and was essential for providing construction materials for Frankfurt's reconstruction.
The facility represented German engineering innovation through the development of the Frankfurt Method, which established new standards for construction material recycling.
The site was easily accessible via transport routes, enabling efficient loading of processed material onto trucks and trains. Visitors should note that the facility no longer exists today and only foundations are visible or the land has other uses.
A distinctive 72-meter chimney was the landmark of the facility until its demolition in 1965. After closure, new buildings including an ice sports hall were constructed on the site, completely transforming the former industrial landscape.
