Arsenal am Pfaffenteich, Military architecture monument near Pfaffenteich lake, Schwerin, Germany.
The Arsenal at Pfaffenteich is a military building that stretches along the lake's southwest bank. Two connected towers with crenellated crowns sit at each end, and the entire structure was built almost entirely from locally sourced bricks.
Construction occurred between 1840 and 1844 under three architects including Georg Adolf Demmler. The project reflected military architecture standards that Prussia demanded during that era.
The building displays English Late Gothic design, which shaped how Schwerin's architecture looked for generations. This style was uncommon for German military construction at that period.
The building sits at the central Pfaffenteich and is easily reached from anywhere in the city. Visitors can view the exterior at any time since it remains accessible to the public and presents an impressive sight from the outside.
The construction required enormous quantities of material sourced mainly from nearby islands and brick factories around the region. This local sourcing made it possible to build quickly and turned the entire project into a manageable undertaking.
