Asklepios Fachklinikum Göttingen

Asklepios Fachklinikum Göttingen is a psychiatric hospital and architectural monument located on a hill above the Leine River in southwestern Göttingen. The complex includes a restored college-style building dating to 1866 and a main administrative structure from 1981.

The facility opened in spring 1866 as the Royal State Mental Institution of Göttingen, functioning as both a treatment center and university teaching clinic. Over the decades it evolved into a modern psychiatric facility with expanded buildings and contemporary treatment approaches.

The place is named after an ancient healing god and its buildings reflect different eras of psychiatric care. Walking through the grounds, you notice how the structures reveal changing approaches to treatment that evolved over many decades.
