The Mosque in Göttingen is a prayer house with modern architecture that consists of several rooms and accommodates about 400 visitors in the prayer hall. The building also includes a library area and spaces for events and instruction.

In 2003 DİTİB began preliminary talks with builders and authorities; the building application was reviewed and modified in 2004. Residents protested with letters and signatures over parking, noise and property values, so the dome and minarets were planned at 15 and 17 metres, about 30 parking spaces were created and the adhan was dropped. The mosque opened on 15 September 2007, built for about 1.1 million euros.

The mosque serves as a gathering place for Muslims and other residents interested in attending events and open discussions. Regular meetings here bring together people from different faith backgrounds to talk and learn from one another.

The facility offers guided tours for school groups and provides learning materials about Muslim life that are accessible to visitors. It is advisable to seek information beforehand to learn when the best times to visit are.

The building was the first in the city to be constructed with a dome and minarets, setting a new mark in the urban landscape. This was an important moment for the Muslim community and permanently changed the city's religious landscape.
