Neuland Lighthouse

Neuland Lighthouse is a 40-meter tall brick structure standing on the western shore of Hohwacht Bay, positioned about one kilometer from the Baltic coast. The building was constructed with solid masonry and displays the classic architectural style typical of coastal navigation landmarks.

The lighthouse was built between 1915 and 1916, beginning service in 1918 with a Fresnel lens installed for maritime navigation. Over the following decades, it served as a key navigation point for vessels traveling in the region.

The lighthouse appears on the coat of arms of Behrensdorf, showing how deeply this structure connects to local identity. Visitors often recognize this symbol and understand why the building matters so much to the people who live here.

The lighthouse is easier to reach at low tide, as the surrounding landscape becomes clearer and access routes more obvious. Visitors should wear weather-resistant clothing since the coastal location can be windy and changeable.

The German postal service honored the structure's regional importance in 1996 by issuing a commemorative stamp featuring its image. This recognition shows how significant the building has become in the cultural memory of the area.
