Bergische Synagoge, Jewish synagogue in Barmen district, Wuppertal, Germany

The Bergische Synagogue features nine narrow windows representing a Chanukkia and includes a glass tower in its modern architectural design.

The synagogue opened on December 8, 2002, replacing the original Barmen Synagogue that was destroyed during the November 1938 pogrom night.

A Hebrew inscription from Prophet Isaiah above the entrance portal states 'For my house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples'.

The synagogue accommodates 300 people and serves the Jewish community of Wuppertal, which grew from 65 to 2000 members in the 1990s.

The land for the synagogue was provided by the Evangelical Church of Rhineland, with construction costs reaching 4.5 million euros.
