Barmer Bankverein, Bank building in Barmen, Germany
Barmer Bankverein is a bank building in Barmen featuring a stone facade with architectural details from the 1870s. It sits at the intersection of Winklerstrasse and continues to operate as a Commerzbank branch serving the local community.
The building was designed and constructed between 1873 and 1874 by architect Hermann Otto Pflaume. It originally served as headquarters for the regional financial institution and has shaped the cityscape since then.
The building reflects the financial growth of the Wuppertal region during late 19th-century industrialization. It shows how important banking institutions were to the city's economic development at that time.
The building is easy to locate at the intersection of Winklerstrasse and can be viewed well from the street. Visitors can observe the stone facade and its architectural features from multiple angles around the site.
A stone tablet with the original Barmer Bankverein inscription is still preserved inside the building. It connects the bank's history to its present-day use by Commerzbank.
