Eissporthalle Frankfurt is a municipal ice arena below the Bornheimer Hang in Frankfurt's Bornheim district, also called Eissporthalle am Ratsweg. Its main rink, sized for ice hockey at about 1,800 m², is ringed by 6,990 spectator places: 3,246 seats, 3,732 standing and 12 wheelchair spaces. A smaller enclosed hall of 675 m² and a 400 m outdoor oval complete the complex, which opened on 19 December 1981.
Frankfurt's first artificial rink opened in 1882 for a patent exhibition, covering 520 m² and cooled with ammonia by a Linde-designed system; a permanent rink followed about ten years later in the Palmengarten. The present hall, designed by Richard Heil and Werner Deyle, opened on 19 December 1981. In 2004 the Frankfurt Lions won the German championship here, and since 2010 Löwen Frankfurt have played in the hall.
The facility serves as the home venue for Löwen Frankfurt ice hockey team and accommodates numerous skating clubs, including figure skating and speed skating organizations.
You can reach the facility by taking the U7 underground line, which stops directly at the Eissporthalle station. The rink is open for public skating on most days, though hours may vary depending on the training schedule.
The 400-metre outdoor oval does not encircle the whole complex: it rings only the open-air area, with a second ice hockey rink inside it that is rarely opened to the public. In summer that covered rink becomes tennis courts.
