Dassower See, Saltwater bay in Lübeck, Germany.
The Dassower See extends over 8 square kilometers northeast of Lübeck, forming a funnel-shaped bay connected to the Trave Fjord and Baltic Sea.
Prior to German reunification in 1990, a concrete wall surrounded the lake's perimeter, making it a restricted zone between East and West Germany.
The lake area includes Schloss Lütgenhof, an 1839 castle designed by Moritz von Paepcke, which now functions as a restaurant and hotel.
Visitors can access the water near Dassow Bridge, where a small landing stage accommodates fishing boats at the Stepenitz River mouth.
The protected water body contains two reed-covered islands, Buchhorst and Graswerder, which provide nesting grounds for 30 different duck species.
