Blaueishütte, Mountain hut in Ramsau bei Berchtesgaden, Germany
Blaueishütte is a mountain hut situated at about 1,650 meters (5,413 feet) elevation in Berchtesgaden National Park, serving as a base for excursions to the Blaueis Glacier and surrounding peaks. The facility provides overnight lodging and meals for hikers and climbers exploring this alpine terrain.
The hut was founded in 1922 by the Hochland Section of the German and Austrian Alpine Association as a simple shelter with 30 beds. The original location sat about 100 meters higher and was eventually abandoned for the current site.
The mountain hut, continuously managed by the Hang family from Ramsau since 1928, serves as a base for climbing education and mountaineering activities.
The hut is reachable via hiking trails taking roughly 2.5 to 3 hours from various starting points like Hintersee or Ramsau. Come prepared with sturdy mountain boots and weatherproof gear, as parts of the route are steep and exposed to wind.
The hut has been run by the Hang family from Ramsau across generations, blending traditional alpine hospitality with modern climbing infrastructure. Visitors find a rare mix of historic mountain lodge character alongside multiple bouldering zones for training.
