Bleichsee, reservoir
Bleichsee is a small man-made lake on a forest-surrounded plateau near Loewenstein. The walking path around the water is well-maintained and lined with benches that invite visitors to rest.
The lake emerged from its former use as a cloth bleaching site where fabrics were cleaned and lightened. This function shaped the area and its name for a long time until today.
The name comes from the Loewenstein cloth bleaching works, a historical place where linen was washed and lightened. Today visitors use the location mainly for walks and rest, while the past as a production site lives on in the place's name.
The lake is best reached via the country road between Loewenstein and Vorhof, where a hiking parking lot is available. It is important to watch for signs that may indicate swimming or entry restrictions.
In winter the water surface can be used for ice skating when sufficiently frozen, a popular gathering spot for locals. In spring and autumn the landscape changes: water lilies on the surface in spring and colorful tree reflections in autumn shape the lake's appearance.
