Ronneburg Castle, Medieval castle in Hesse, Germany

The castle stands on a steep basalt cone, featuring multiple towers, defensive walls, and a central courtyard within its fortified complex structure.

Built around 1200, the castle changed ownership between the House of Isenburg and the Archbishop of Mainz throughout the medieval period.

The castle museum displays medieval furniture, armor collections, and contains one of the deepest wells documented in Germany's historical structures.

Visitors can access the castle from March to November, Tuesday through Sunday, with guided tours explaining the medieval architecture and defense systems.

The castle grounds include a falconry center where eagles and other birds of prey perform regular flying demonstrations for visitors.
