Burg Schell-Pyrmont

Burg Schell-Pyrmont is a castle ruin standing on an artificially flattened mountain spur in Bad Pyrmont. The site covers a rectangular area protected by defensive structures, with remnants of walls and tower foundations still visible across the grounds.

The Pyrmont domain emerged in 1184 following political changes in the region, establishing itself as a significant territorial holding. The castle functioned as a ruling seat for several centuries before being gradually abandoned in the 18th century.

The castle grounds contain architectural elements from different periods, including a watchtower and remnants of a round tower at the northeast edge.

The castle grounds are freely accessible and offer good views of the ruins from various angles. Walking across the sloped terrain requires sturdy footwear, especially after wet weather.

A tower was reconstructed on the grounds in the 1800s using stone salvaged from the original castle walls. This later addition blends with the older ruins and demonstrates how the site's history continued to evolve over time.
