Steinsberg Castle, Medieval castle in Weiler, Germany
The stone fortress includes a central keep, defensive moat, and multiple towers positioned on a strategic hilltop location at 49.2144°N and 8.87722°E.
First documented in 1109, the castle changed ownership from the Counts of Oettingen to the Counts Palatine of the Rhine before the Lords of Venningen acquired it in 1517.
The castle represents medieval German military architecture with its defensive structures and demonstrates the power relationships between noble families in Baden-Württemberg.
The Sinsheim council maintains the castle grounds, offering access to preserved sections including the keep, moat, and towers for educational visits.
Following the castle's destruction during the Peasants' revolt, the local population paid 5000 Gulden for its reconstruction as mandated compensation.
