Burg Guttenberg, Medieval castle in Haßmersheim, Germany
The stone fortress stands on a hilltop above the Neckar River valley, featuring defensive towers and thick walls from the Staufer period.
The castle, first documented in 1296, was purchased by Hans von Gemmingen in 1449 for 6,000 Rhenish guilders from Conrad von Weinsberg's heirs.
The castle museum presents an exhibition about medieval life, illustrating daily activities and customs of knights during the Middle Ages.
Visitors can join guided tours of the castle museum led by members of the owner family, with advance reservations required throughout the year.
The German bird of prey center within the castle grounds conducts daily flight demonstrations with eagles and vultures at 11:00 and 15:00.
