Transylvanian Museum, Cultural heritage museum in Gundelsheim, Germany
The Transylvanian Museum occupies two floors within Horneck Castle and displays collections documenting the history and culture of Transylvanian Saxon communities. The galleries hold paintings, tools, and household objects that provide a window into how people lived and worked across different time periods.
The museum was established in 1968, growing from an ethnographic collection assembled in Munich during the 1950s by Lore Connerth-Seraphin. This foundation shaped the institution into an important archive of Transylvanian Saxon heritage that continues today.
The displays show crafts and clothing that reflect the everyday life of Transylvanian Saxons across generations. Visitors encounter religious objects and artistic works that connect directly to local traditions and cultural identity.
The museum can be entered through separate doors on the ground and first floors, allowing visitors to explore it independently from other castle activities. This setup means you can visit at your own pace without needing to coordinate with other castle attractions or events.
The collection includes self-portraits and artworks by Clara Adelheid Soterius von Sachsenheim along with paintings by her husband Theodor Sockl. These personal works offer a window into the couple's life and their artistic contribution to preserving local heritage.
