Burgruine Kräheneck, Medieval castle ruins in Dillweißenstein, Germany.
Burgruine Kraeheneck consists of the remains of a fortified structure with prominent walls built from red sandstone blocks. The most substantial sections reach heights of about ten meters and reveal the original construction methods of the medieval fortification.
The fortification was built in the eleventh century by the Lords of Weißenstein and first appeared in written records in 1194. It was originally known under the name Creinegg before being renamed in later periods.
The site draws visitors interested in medieval fortifications and regional heritage. Over time, it became a gathering place for local celebrations and cultural events in the area.
The ruins sit atop a hillside spur surrounded by the Nagold River, providing an elevated vantage point. The climb can be steep in places, so sturdy footwear is advisable and care should be taken when conditions are wet.
A preserved chamber with a shooting slit and spiral staircase is visible in the northern section of the walls. These details reveal how defenders would position themselves and move between levels during medieval times.
