Burg Lindau

Burg Lindau is a medieval castle in Zerbst located on a steep slope beside the Nuthe River. The complex comprises a main castle with a circular keep and an outer bailey section, joined by a drawbridge.

Archaeological findings suggest construction dates back to the ninth century and occurred under the rule of Evererus von Lindau. The site evolved over centuries into an important defensive position within the region.

The castle displays features of medieval defensive architecture that remain visible today. You can see from the steep location and solid walls how important this place was for controlling the region.

The site is reachable on foot, but the steep location requires effort during ascent. Brick walls are partially preserved, though be aware of slippery surfaces when conditions are damp.

Slavic pottery shards discovered during excavations reveal early settlement traces at this location. These archaeological traces connect the castle with far older cultures that shaped the landscape.
