Zerbster Stadtmauer, Medieval city walls in Zerbst, Germany
The fortification system extends over 4 kilometers around the historic center of Zerbst, featuring preserved gates, battlements, and defensive installations.
Built between 1430 and 1434, the walls received additional modifications in 1571 with the addition of roofed walkways and shooting holes for firearms.
The five original city gates, including the northeastern Heidetor, represent different connections to neighboring territories and medieval trade routes.
Visitors can walk along the entire perimeter through park facilities and green areas, observing medieval defense structures and architectural elements.
The Kiekinpott defense tower, constructed in 1396 by city residents, stands near the former princely water castle.
