Burg Naumburg, Medieval castle ruins in Bärenbach, Germany.
Burg Naumburg is a castle ruin situated on a hilltop where the Bärenbach stream meets the Nahe river. The stone walls remain partially intact, allowing visitors to make out the layout and structure of this medieval fortress.
The fortress was founded in 1146 and passed through several hands over the centuries. It was destroyed by French forces in 1803 and gradually fell into ruin afterward.
The walls show how medieval nobles built and defended their fortresses using stone construction methods of that era. Visitors can see the building techniques that were common at the time.
Access to the ruins is free and open to visitors at any time. The paths can be muddy or steep depending on the weather, so sturdy footwear is recommended.
Between 1986 and 1994, archaeologists conducted excavations at the site and uncovered the original foundation structures of the early medieval fortress. These investigations significantly helped understand how the castle originally looked.
