Bürgerhospital, Former hospital building in central Stuttgart, Germany
The Bürgerhospital is a building complex in central Stuttgart spanning approximately 3.9 hectares near the main railway station. It combines preserved historical structures with modern elements throughout its grounds.
The site was founded between 1350 and 1366 as St. Catharina Hospital and later received its current name. In 1536, the facility relocated to a former Dominican monastery.
The building displays artworks by artist Max Verch, including sculptures and wall reliefs that honor Stuttgart's medical history. These artistic pieces remain visible today and shape how the place feels to visitors.
The complex is centrally located and easily accessible from the main railway station, making it simple to reach. Visitors can walk through the grounds and explore the mix of old and new structures at their own pace.
The preserved patient garden maintains its original tree species and creates an established green space within the urban surroundings. This garden is often overlooked by visitors yet offers a quiet retreat away from the busy city streets.
