Cathedral Bridge, Steel truss bridge in Cologne, Germany
The Cathedral Bridge spanned the Rhine River with a lattice design made of wrought iron, featuring two railway tracks and one road lane.
Construction began in 1855 under Frederick William IV, and the bridge officially opened on October 3, 1859, connecting Cologne with the Deutz district.
The bridge received the name Muusfall, meaning mousetrap in the local Kölsch dialect, due to its cage-like structure with gates at both ends.
The bridge served as the primary Rhine crossing point until 1909, when increased traffic from the new central station exceeded its capacity.
Hermann Lohse designed the intricate iron latticework that formed diagonal patterns throughout the bridge structure, measuring 16.73 meters in width.
