Dominikanerkloster Soest

The Dominikanerkloster Soest is a medieval monastic complex centered around a church building in the city of Soest. A preserved wing of the original cloister still stands and connects to a neighboring commercial structure.

The monastery was established between 1228 and 1232 and remained active until 1812. Its church buildings were later demolished, with the main structure torn down in 1820.

Street names like Brüderstraße and the Mönchshof inn still reflect the Dominican friars who once lived and worked here. These local markers show how embedded the community was in the city.

The preserved cloister wing is easy to locate near the city center and is integrated with modern commercial functions. Access is via ordinary streets that are readily walkable.

In 1754 about 40 friars lived in the monastery, but by its dissolution only a handful remained. This sharp decline reflects broader shifts in religious life during that period.
