Leuchtturm Kollicker Ort

The Kollicker Ort lighthouse stands on white chalk cliffs, towering 30 meters above the Baltic Sea, guiding ships with its light visible at 10 nautical miles.

Put into operation on April 1, 1905, this lighthouse has served its maritime navigation purpose for over a century. Its history is connected to the development of the signaling network along the German Baltic coast in the early 20th century, during a period of expansion in maritime trade in the region.

The lighthouse is an integral part of Rügen's maritime heritage and is protected as a historical monument within Jasmund National Park, home to the famous chalk cliffs captured by Romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich.

Access is only possible on foot via a hiking trail from Sassnitz (about 10 km) or by boat on maritime excursions departing from the port. The walk crosses the beech forest in the national park and runs along the edge of the cliffs. Wear hiking shoes and carry water. Boats offer the chance to view the lighthouse from the sea and observe the geological formations of the cliffs.

During World War II, the lighthouse served as an observation post to monitor naval movements in the Baltic Sea, with bunkers built nearby whose remnants are still partially visible today.
