Ehmetsklinge, Stausee in Deutschland
Ehmetsklinge is a man-made reservoir in Baden-Württemberg surrounded by forests, meadows, and vineyards covering about 21 hectares. Water is held back by a dam roughly 15 meters high that serves both flood control and regional water supply purposes.
The reservoir was built between 1968 and 1970 as a flood control measure for the Zaber River and was expanded in 2000-2001. This enlargement increased its capacity and integrated it into the region's modern water management system.
The reservoir sits in a region with deep roots in viticulture and is maintained by the local community with care for both recreation and nature. Visitors experience how water management and agricultural tradition shape the surrounding landscape.
The water is open for swimming and regularly tested; motorboats are prohibited. Parking, marked paths, a beach area, and a restaurant with facilities make for comfortable visits, while several walking routes of varying lengths start directly from the reservoir.
The reservoir hosts different bird species year-round such as herons, geese, and cormorants, while winter brings visiting storks and sandpipers. Birdwatchers find rewarding observation points here, especially during quieter months.
