French inventor Bernard Gitton created this modern water clock in 1982, incorporating traditional timekeeping principles with contemporary engineering methods.
The clock represents Berlin's dedication to combining technological innovation with artistic expression through its continuous flow of illuminated water measurements.
Visitors can observe the clock's mechanism daily without charge in the central area of Europa-Center, near the Tauentzienstraße entrance.
The timing system operates through communicating tubes and a siphon principle, with a pendulum completing one swing every six seconds.
