Waldecker Bergbahn, Aerial lift in Waldeck, Germany
The Waldecker Bergbahn is a cable car that stretches 650 meters across a forested slope, connecting the Edersee lakeside promenade with the town of Waldeck. The system features 28 two-person cabins and can carry up to 720 passengers per hour.
The cable car was built in 1961 by Pohlig AG from Cologne and was the first gondola lift system in Hesse. This project marked the beginning of modern tourism development in this landscape.
The system connects visitors directly to Waldeck Castle, a medieval fortress that today houses exhibitions about the region's history. This access makes the area's historic sites easy for visitors to reach.
Special cabins allow bicycles to be transported, making it easy to explore the area after the ride. The journey takes only a few minutes, and the direction is clearly marked.
The system uses a specialized steel cable 24 millimeters thick and is supported by six towers. This robust construction has proven reliable for more than 60 years and contributes to a sense of security during the ride.
