Kellerwald-Edersee National Park

The Kellerwald-Edersee National Park extends across 5,738 hectares of untouched landscape featuring ancient beech forests, natural springs, and rocky formations near Edersee Lake.

The national park received its official designation in January 2004 and gained UNESCO World Heritage status in 2011 as part of Europe's ancient beech forest network.

The National Park Center presents educational exhibitions about local ecosystems, regional wildlife conservation efforts, and traditional forest management practices of Northern Hesse.

Visitors can explore 68 kilometers of marked trails through the Urwald hiking network, connecting observation points and geological formations throughout the park.

The protected area contains over one thousand natural springs and streams flowing through dense copper beech forests toward the Edersee reservoir.
