St. Martin, Parish church in Ochtendung, Germany
St. Martin is a parish church in Ochtendung built between 1957 and 1958. It stands out for its large west-facing window with colorful stained glass by Georg Meistermann, which fills the church interior with colored light.
A Romanesque bell tower from the 12th century is the oldest part of the site and has survived several different church structures. The current building arose after the war from the community's desire to erect a new sacred structure.
The interior was redesigned after World War II and reflects the community's desire to create a modern place of worship. The chapels and high altar show how the parish expressed its religious identity through the choice of materials and artworks.
The church is located in the center of Ochtendung and is easy to reach on foot. The large windows provide bright light, so visiting during daytime is particularly worthwhile.
The Meistermann stained glass window was designed specifically for this church and ranks among his most significant works from that period. The window installation was so remarkable that it drew attention to the highest political circles.
