Berlin-Müggelberge TV Tower, Television tower in Treptow-Köpenick, Germany
The Berlin-Müggelberge TV Tower is a concrete structure topped with a radar dome, standing about 31 meters above ground level. The facility operates today as a relay station for telecommunications and mobile radio services.
Construction of the tower began in 1954 but was halted in 1955 due to safety concerns regarding aircraft near Berlin-Schonefeld airport. The project reflects the early post-war period of urban development in the region.
The structure later served as a listening station for the East German Ministry of State Security during the period of divided Germany.
The site sits in a quiet area on the city's outskirts and is visible from nearby streets but not directly accessible. Keep in mind that this is an active telecommunications facility and the tower itself cannot be entered by visitors.
Next to the main structure stands a 64-meter lattice tower equipped with specialized antennas for non-public communications systems. This companion structure demonstrates the extensive technical equipment required for operations.
