Fahrtor, Medieval city gate in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
The Fahrtor served as a fortified entrance connecting Frankfurt's historic city center with the harbor along the Main River through massive stone walls.
Built between 1456 and 1460 under master craftsman Eberhard Friedberger, the gate was demolished in 1840 to make way for modern quay development.
The gate's upper floors housed council meetings and court sessions, while its facade displayed the coats of arms of the Holy Roman Empire and Frankfurt.
Located at the heart of Frankfurt near the Main River, the former gate area is now accessible through multiple transportation routes and pedestrian pathways.
The gate featured an elaborate timber-framed structure above the opening, decorated with rich tracery work that survived until the 19th century demolition.
