Glaselefant, Glass and steel observation tower in Hamm, Germany.
The Glaselefant is an observation tower made of glass and steel in Hamm, shaped like a giant elephant that rises 35 meters above ground. Its head contains a greenhouse with tropical plants, and visitors can reach the upper levels by an elevator that runs through the trunk.
The tower was built in 1984 during the Regional Garden Show on a former coal mining site where an old coal-washing facility was transformed. This conversion of an industrial space into a visitor attraction became a turning point for revitalizing Maximilian Park.
The structure displays multicolored LED lights during the Herbstleuchten festival, synchronizing illumination patterns with musical performances each autumn.
An elevator in the trunk brings visitors quickly to the platform, while a staircase at the rear leads to the viewing gallery at 29 meters high. Taking both routes helps you discover different views of the park and city.
The observation platform provides views across Maximilian Park and central Hamm through windows positioned within the elephant's transparent head structure.
