Reichenhaller Haus, Mountain hut at Bad Reichenhall, Germany
Reichenhaller Haus is a mountain hut on the Hochstaufen peak near Bad Reichenhall in Bavaria, Germany. It sits just below the summit and offers sleeping spots in shared dormitory rooms along with basic food service.
The hut was built in 1902, during a period when hiking and mountain tourism were beginning to take hold in the Chiemgau Alps. It has remained in operation ever since, making it one of the older huts in this part of Bavaria.
The hut serves Bavarian food typical of the region, such as hearty soups and cold cuts. Guests sleep in shared dormitory rooms, which naturally brings people together after a long day on the trails.
The hut is only reachable on foot from Bad Reichenhall, with the trail climbing through forested terrain for several hours. No card payments are accepted, so bring enough cash before starting the hike.
Supplies are carried up to the hut by porters on foot three times a week, since there are no roads or cable cars serving this location. Helicopters are used only for larger deliveries, which shows how remote the site truly is.
